MGM MIRAGE Voice Foundation reaches $12 million in employee donations

LAS VEGAS – MGM MIRAGE announced today that its employees in Southern Nevada recently donated more than $3.2 million to support the Voice Foundation, the company’s nonprofit, philanthropic funding entity that disperses employee contributions to worthy charities and causes.

On Tuesday, MGM MIRAGE employees celebrated a record year for employee donations by visiting three of the many local charities they supported throughout the year to personally present checks to Catholic Charities, the Blind Center of Nevada and Nevada Health Centers. Catholic Charities received $50,000 for its Meals on Wheels program serving senior citizens. The Blind Center received $21,692 for its computer and education programs. Nevada Health Centers received $65,000 for its Miles for Smiles mobile dental bus serving local children.

Since its inception in 2002, the Voice Foundation has dispersed more than $12 million in employee donations to such deserving organizations located in the cities and states where MGM MIRAGE operates businesses.

Each year, MGM MIRAGE manages a company-wide fundraising campaign to support the Voice Foundation. MGM MIRAGE Chairman and CEO Terry Lanni called the 2005 campaign result a “significant milestone for MGM MIRAGE employees and the Voice Foundation.”

“We know that our company is only as good as its people. Results like this demonstrate that our employees care about the communities in which they live, work and care for their families,” Lanni said. “In Southern Nevada alone, our employee giving has reached record levels, far exceeding the national average for corporate employee fundraising campaigns.”

He said that 100 percent of all money contributed by participating MGM MIRAGE employees in Southern Nevada to the MGM MIRAGE Voice Foundation stays in Southern Nevada, where hundreds of local charities use these funds to serve thousands of people in need.

Erika Welsing, a human resources training specialist at the MGM Grand who is also a member of the employee council that administers the Voice Foundation, expressed pride in helping the company reach this milestone.

“It feels good to play a part in making Las Vegas a better place to live,” she said. “When we work together, we really can make a difference.”

Through the MGM MIRAGE Voice Foundation, employees can direct their donations by selecting a preferred charity; donating to an Employee Emergency Relief Fund that helps fellow employees during emergency situations; donating to the local United Way; or giving to the Voice Foundation Community Fund, which supports grants to nonprofit agencies that are selected by a group of MGM MIRAGE employees who make up the Community Voice Council (CVC).

CVC members are selected to serve based on their level of community commitment and workplace experience. Members attend monthly meetings, review grant applications, recommend amounts and agencies to be funded and conduct follow-up visits with local agencies to ensure that donations are used wisely.
