CULINARY TRAINING ACADEMY UNVEILS NEW EVENTS CENTER TO TRAIN WORKERS FOR JOBS IN HOSPITALITY
CTA Partners with MGM MIRAGE to expand its training and education facilities

LAS VEGAS – April 16, 2008 – The Culinary Training Academy (CTA) today unveiled its new state–of–the–art MGM MIRAGE Culinary Training Academy Events Center which will be used to train individuals for jobs in the hospitality industry. The facility will help provide the latest experienced–based instruction to prepare workers for the more than 100,000 jobs needed by the industry over the next five years. To assist the CTA in its mission, MGM MIRAGE made a multi–year commitment totaling $500,000 for the Events Center.

“With many large–scale developments scheduled to open over the next several years, Las Vegas will see a tremendous need for thousands of qualified, skilled workers in the hospitality industry,” said Felix Rappaport, President & Chief Operating Officer of the Luxor Hotel & Casino and Immediate Past Chairman of the CTA Board of Directors. “The expanded facilities at the CTA will help MGM MIRAGE and the hospitality industry by developing and training future culinary employees.”

According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR), it is estimated that by the year 2010, over 57,700 new jobs will be created in the Leisure and Hospitality industry. New construction projects, like MGM MIRAGE’s CityCenter development, will add another 40,000 hotel rooms and 100,000 jobs over the next five years.

“The Culinary Training Academy will play a major role in preparing employees by providing a practical training environment,” said Steven Horsford, President and CEO, Culinary Training Academy.

The new MGM MIRAGE Events Center will service local businesses and community organizations with catering services for private, corporate and community functions. Chef Sterling Burpee, CTA Chief Culinary Officer, will oversee the culinary operations. Burpee was recently voted one of Ebony magazine’s “Top 15 African American Chefs 2007.”

The CTA is the largest provider of employment and vocational training for entry–level and incumbent workers for the hospitality industry in Las Vegas. The Academy trains approximately 3,000 students with an annual job placement rate of 85.7% for participating employers through a nationally and internationally–recognized labor–management partnership between the Culinary Union Local #226, Bartenders Local #165 and major resort/gaming properties.
